1. What is Kraft paper?
Kraft paper has another name is recycled paper, which is a type of printing paper with golden brown characteristics, different brightness depending on each paper supplier and the most popular Kraft paper today is Kraft paper from Japan, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, ...
In Vietnam, this paper is often called as cement paper because it is used as a cement bag. Kraft paper is used in many fields of life, especially used as product packaging because of its outstanding properties: durable, tough, and has good bearing capacity. These characteristics are formed during the production of Kraft pulp.
The most interesting feature of Kraft paper that businesses often love is the aesthetics that it brings. Different from papers that bring luxury beauty such as Crystal paper, Ivory paper, art paper, ..., Kraft paper brings a different feeling. Due to its golden brown color and rough and rough surface, Kraft paper brings a simple and natural beauty, suitable for handmade products or simple concept that many customers like.
Some Kraft paper bags are dyed and printed beautifully, but its raw material still makes customers feel more new about the packaging than other paper materials, especially customers who are concerned. pay attention to environmental issues. Not only does it provide natural steam, but Kraft paper is really an environmentally friendly material that can be recycled, making the use of Kraft paper bags as packaging instead of plastic bags becoming a trend. a lot of interest in the market.
"Kraft" in German means strength. As mentioned above, due to the characteristics of the manufacturing process, Kraft paper is firm, flexible and relatively coarse. The lignin in the low pulp makes it harder and more durable than other paper materials. The paper has great strength, tear strength, can capture ink (low molecular density) and has controlled permeability depending on the purpose of use (or porosity). Therefore, Kraft paper is used a lot in life.
2. Explain characteristics of Kraft paper
Why is Kraft paper different from most common papers such as Couche, Ford, Bristol,…? The cause of the characteristics of Kraft paper comes from the process of manufacturing it.
Kraft paper is produced using the Kraft process, like other paper production methods, which involves the chemical conversion of wood into wood pulp.
The structural components in wood are lignin and cellulose. To make pulp, sulfate processes must be used. For other types of paper, this degrades the cellulose, leaving behind a lot of lignin, making the paper less durable and not tough. Meanwhile, Kraft pulp removes most of the lignin in wood. Low lignin strength greatly affects the durability of paper, because the hydrophobic nature of lignin hinders the formation of bonds between cellulose in fibers. For this reason, the important feature of Kraft paper is its durability, toughness and thickness.
Kraft pulp has a darker color than other wood pulp, but it can be bleached to give a very white pulp. Fully bleached Kraft pulp is used to make high-quality paper, where durability, whiteness and resistance to yellowing are important.
And unlike other methods, Kraft paper can be produced from all types of wood, including resin and bamboo, which are not used in traditional papermaking processes. In addition, the production of these ingredients saves money in that nearly all of the chemicals used in the process are recovered and reused.
Kraft paper can be coated with Polyethylene or Zein layer to increase resistance to moisture, grease and bacteria. If coated with Polyethylene, the recyclability is low. If coated with Zein, paper recycling will be higher.
3. Classification of Kraft paper
Depending on the properties and uses, Kraft paper has many different uses. Kraft paper is a paper that does not have a certain specification, often according to different properties and uses to be classified.
By color: Natural Color (Brown) Kraft Paper, Red Kraft Paper, White Kraft Paper, Plain Kraft Paper, Light Single Kraft Paper, Two Color Kraft Paper, ... Thanks to advanced printing and dyeing technology and increasingly Currently, the color of Kraft paper bags is diversified to suit each type of product.
According to the purpose of use: Kraft paper packaging, waterproof Kraft paper, moist Kraft paper, rusty Kraft paper, insulated Kraft board, ...
According to production materials: recycled Kraft paper, raw Kraft paper, wood pulp Kraft paper, synthetic Kraft paper, ...
The most used type of Kraft paper bag is Kraft paper packaging. If used for food storage, people often use good waterproof Kraft paper, recycled Kraft paper. If used to store construction materials and utensils, raw Kraft paper is preferred.
4. The specifications of the Kraft paper
Quantitative
Kraft paper has a weight of about 70-400g / m2.
Size
Kraft paper is sold in rolls in rolls of 80cm, 110cm, 120cm, ...
Paper can also be sold in A4, A3, ... or depending on the size of the customer request.
